You may be familiar with my last post about the use of 80’s music in the song sets of my local oldies radio station. Well! I wanted to update you and let you know that, at least in Richmond, the 1980’s have most definitely slipped into the realm of oldies.

FACT. I have heard the following artists on this channel: (1) Rick Springfield (Jesse’s Girl - Twice); (2) Hall & Oates (songs too numerous to count); (3) Michael Jackson (Billie Jean); (4) Huey Lewis and the News (who really cares what song it was).

When grunge hits the oldies station I think I may cry.

I would like to express (through the written word) my excitement about seeing Sufjan Stevens tonight at The National in Richmond, VA. Here goes: WOOOOOOOOOOOOT! That felt good. I am equally excited that this show means I get to see some of my most favoritest peeps. Wink. Wink. See you bi-atches tonight! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday Bacon Report:

Really, this is the highlight of the entire article:

Candied Bacon

8 smoked bacon slices (we slice these very thin from a slab with a slicer)
4 tbsp light brown sugar
1 pinch cayenne pepper

Preheat oven to 325°F
Drag bacon through brown sugar till lightly coated arrange on silpat* on sheet pan
Sprinkle remaining brown sugar and cayenne evenly over slices
Place another silpat on top and place in oven
Bake for 15 min, raise oven temp to 375°F and bake for 5 min, check and see if crisp.
Check every min until ready. Be careful because it can burn easily.

Starting low keeps the bacon flat during cooking; otherwise it would ripple.

A silpat is a silicone baking sheet. If you don’t have any on hand, you can use parchment paper

Tonight I embark on a fateful journey down a culinary pathway on which I have never traveled, for tonight I will use my kitchen to make a grown-up meal. Yes, I will follow a recipe, and I will use both my oven and stove. No, none of the dishes will come from a box. It is for this reason that I call out to you, my 2 loyal Tumblr followers, to wish me well during this exciting and nerve-wracking chapter in my life.
